Decommissioning Project at JRC Ispra site
In 2023 company VUJE together with Italian company DESPE (as a leader) was awarded by European Commission - Joint Research Centre in Ispra with the Contract for providing Decommissioning services and related supplies for the JRC Decommissioning & Waste Management Programme.
The eight-years long complex Framework contract covers the performance of both consultancy and implementation activities in the field of decommissioning related to several old and shutdown nuclear facilities located at the Ispra site such as:
- Impianto Nucleare Essor (INE), a 25 MW research reactor with heavy water as both moderator and coolant. Besides the reactor, the facility comprises also a decay pond.
- Laboratorio Caldo di Studi e Ricerche (LCSR), a hot-cell laboratory focused mainly on the post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel and structural specimens, and the experimental processing of radioactive waste.
- Stazione di Trattamento dei Rifiuti Radioattivi Liquidi (STRRL), a liquid effluent collection and treatment plant.
- Cyclotron, a highly versatile accelerator.
The Project is implemented through various individual Specific contracts in which Customer defines its specific requirements mainly in the field of:
- Implementation of housekeeping, radiological characterization, dismantling, decontamination, remediation and material management (including radioactive and hazardous waste) as well as modification (replacement) of various old systems.
- Manufacturing and delivery of specific equipment and facilities needed for implementation of decommissioning activities.
- Decommissioning consultancy, technical expertise and engineering, preparation of technical documentation as well as support of Customer in the communication with Authorities.
- Supply of specific material, equipment, spare parts and consumables needed for implementation of decommissioning.
