New exhibition on nuclear technology at the Nuclear training centre ICJT
Nuclear Training Centre ICJT is an organizational unit of Jožef Stefan Institute, the largest research organization in Slovenia. The main mission of ICJT is training of nuclear professionals, but in addition it is extensively involved in public information about energy, nuclear technology and radioactivity. The mainstays of this activity are a live lecture and a permanent exhibition about nuclear technology. Since 1993, we had more than 200,000 visitors (about 10 % of population of Slovenia), mostly school children, but also other groups. We believe that a good public acceptance of nuclear in Slovenia (supported by over 60 %) is in part also a result of our public information.
In 2022/23 an extensive refurbishment of the permanent exhibition took place: a new graphical design, a significantly larger number of interactive exhibits, a new lecture room for demonstration of radioactivity experiments, and an elevator (to enable visits of handicapped). The new exhibition addresses the following areas: energy, electricity, climate change, basics of nuclear physics, background radiation, nuclear power plants, nuclear safety, radioactive waste, and fusion.
On June 7, 2023 Mr. Bojan Kumer, the Minister for environment, climate and energy of Slovenia formally opened the new exhibition.
